The Richards
Greater Love, based in central Virginia, consists of two families who recently combined their ministries to become one. Though Don Leake and his son, Craig Leake, have had a group called Greater Love Quartet for many years, it has only been recently that Eddie and Sherry Richards (The Richards) came aboard, merging their ministry with that of Greater Love Quartet to form a unique mixed quartet now called simply GREATER LOVE. With four voices of more than 100 combined years of experience, this is a blend not often heard in the gospel music industry.

Each member has his or her own unique background and testimony, which they frequently share from the stage, but together, they have one goal - - to sing songs that will present the gospel to the lost and encourage those who are hurting.

Don Leake, Manager and bass singer, began his musical career singing Jazz at the age of 3, and later began singing in Church at the age of 11. He has since traveled and sung in various quartets and trios for more than 45 years until forming Greater Love Quartet more than 15 years ago. Formerly, one of the best lead singers in the industry, he is now one of the smoothest bass singers you’ll hear anywhere. In 1959, Don married a wonderful lady named Barbara who manages the product inventory and makes sure the group has a place to sleep and food to eat. Don and Barbara have 2 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren not including their little chihuahua, Ollie.

Craig Leake, baritone singer and bus driver, is son to Don and Barbara Leake and has been with Greater Love since it’s inception. His rich baritone voice is what holds the blend together. In his younger days, Craig sang with a group called Midnight Cry Quartet from Northern, Virginia. When not on the road, he enjoys riding his Harley, cooking, hunting and doing carpentry work. Craig is married to a beautiful lady named Fe (pronounced “Faye”) and together they have 3 children and 1 grandchild. Their son, Joseph, travels with the group most of the time, occasionally making a stage appearance on a song or two.

Lead singer, Eddie Richards, grew up singing in his bedroom to the gospel tunes of B.J. Thomas. He did not begin traveling and singing Gospel music until later in life but always knew that singing would be a huge part of what he would ultimately do. His greatest inspiration in gospel music is the late Kenny Hinson. He and his wife have shared the stage with such great icons as The Hinsons, Karen Peck and New River, The Hoppers, The Dixie Melody Boys and many others. In 1984, Eddie married Sherry Meador (Greater Love Alto Singer) and together they have 1 child and 1 grandchild. Along with his strong singing talents, Eddie also writes many of the songs he and his wife have recorded over the last 25 years.

Alto, Sherry Richards, began singing at the age of 5 in the children’s choir that her mother directed, as she comes from a long line of musicians and singers including her grandfather, mother and father and 2 sisters. Her family, The Jimmy Meador Family, began traveling and singing when she was 8 years old and it was at that time in her life that she realized that traveling and singing was what she wanted to do in life. Sherry traveled with her family as well as another group until she married lead singer, Eddie Richards in 1984, and joined the group he was with called The Nippers. Since that time, she and Eddie have sung together as a duo as well as with other groups. She also fills in with The Hoppers on occasion when Connie is unable to appear. In addition to her singing abilities, Sherry plays piano, teaches harmony parts and helps write the music to the songs her husband writes.

Glenn Watson, Sound Engineer and bus driver, has been with Greater Love since it’s inception. He married his high school sweetheart, Gail Leake, daughter of Don and Barbara Leake in 1982 and together they have 2 children, 3 grandchildren, and a lab named Dixie. The couple still lives on a farm in Gordonsville, Virginia, that has been in Glenn’s family for more than 70 years. Glenn taught the preschool Sunday school class for 7 years before the group began traveling too much for him to do so. If you have any questions about the Bible, you can certainly ask Glenn. When not on the road, Glenn enjoys fishing, working in his vegetable garden, chopping wood and spending time with his family.
